I missed the fair

I thought the animaxtion fair held at expo was going to be held for a week or so. I was wrong. The duration of the fair was from 25th to the 28th. So I missed a golden opportunity to witness a must see event for aspiring animators. What a waste...

Dorothy said that she would be on going on a trip down under starting from tomorrow. So she asked me on her behalf to tell everyone, "Woo-hoo! I'm going Australia and all you losers are staying in rainy Singapore. Wee."

Okay...she didn't say that. I made it up. Actually she said "---U Guys take care in Singapore. Help me wish everyone if you blog today---"

So that makes the official total no. of DMD0406 students on overseas vacation: 3 (Romeo, Catherine and now, Haru)

IMHO I think she made a mistake of passing her message through me because there's only 3 ppl who read my blog. Thats me, myself and I. (Obviously she has forgotten to apply Comm Skill's rule, use proper channels and repetition.)

D'oh

I seemed to have forgotten to bring back the model that we completed for studio project. Last time I heard about it was from Haidar. She said that it was still in the Computer Lab and some people were fooling around with it. Flashback* that was over two weeks ago---D'oh! I wonder if it still there. I really don't care if they even threw it away but sometimes the estate staff will take these found items and keep them in the Student Affairs Office for safekeeping. Hopefully somebody has thrown it away. (My name tag is still attached to the base...)

Kung-Fu Hustle starring Stephen Chow is coming soon. 23rd Dec to be exact. I can't wait to watch it. I saw the trailer on the Spiderman 2 DVD and it was really hilarious. Stephen was talking crap to a bunch of villagers(a few old men, women and young children) who looked at him anxiously. He boasted that he could take on anyone and asked who was brave enough to step forward. He expected that his boast would make these villagers cower in fear. OMG he was so wrong....everyone stepped forward, including this frail chinese woman. So he picked that particular chinese woman to come forward and give him a punch (to give evidence to his strength). He was so cocky---but this woman was incredibly tough(or maybe Stephen was a weakling?). She striked him straight in the solar plexus(ouch) which had him writhing in pain, as well as coughing up blood. Then he looked up at the woman, raised one eyebrow and said "Is that all that you've got?". LMAO that was so lame. It's got the same type of violent, slapstick humor that dodgeball had. I can't wait for it to be on the big screen.

Down memory lane

Herwan had invited me to his 'open house' today. He gave me specific instructions to come at around 5pm so that my arrival would be in sync with our other friends. I was there at 515pm but I had to wait until 7pm before they finally made their presence. It didn't matter to me because I had nothing to do at home anyway.
So there was five of us. Murshidah, Nurafidah, Nurfadilah, Herwan and I. The last time we were together had been Primary 6. So it was around 8 years or more before we reunited. Of course I fail to remember any person's name if I don't see them regularly within 2 years.(this is guranteed. no extension of warranty -you were warned)
Later we went to Siti Nurfadilah's house which was deep in Woodlands Ave. We chatted some more. Had more food. Then we left for home.

It has been some time since I've updated so I decided to put in an entry even though I don't feel like blogging today. I've been thinking of setting up another page, "Whine, Whine, Whine". Its a special page where I can just keep ranting and talk bu**$417. Its what I do best. Then again--maybe not. I'm soooo lazzzy.

We Are The Champions - Queen

Enthused Hisyam: "Yes! I did it, after procrastinating for two weeks I finally finished it! I finished one page. Woo hoo. Oh yeah bring out the cakes and root beer man. Lets pah-tee."

>>>And now you know the reason why I don't finish any of my comics.

*Now back to your dreary boring lives*

The Incensed Incommunicado

I thought that I would be watching The Incredibles today, unfortunately the tickets were selling out fast. The next available timeslot was at 9pm. I was willing to wait that long but my friends on the other hand weren't.
Hmm :( i was really looking forward to watching this animation. So I guess if I want to catch it, I'd have to do it alone (no surprises there).

I'm really frustrated with my inconsistent drawing results. Sometimes it can be satisfactory and more often than not, a disaster. I hate using pencils...why do art teachers always recommend using them? They always have to be sharpened and its not like I'm drawing real life stills. I prefer using mechanical pencils. Its similar to using the micro pigma pens. Mechanical pencils are fast and you don't have to exert too much force in highlights. The disadvantage however, these pencils make for bad shading.

You know what? I'm going to keep using mechanical pencils to illustrate my cartoons. Rebel!Hopefully I can finish my comic before the holiday ends.

Read me like an open book

At 11am, I woke up with a throbbing headache. I've only slept for about 5hrs. My friends sent smses to my mobile saying that the plan was that we meet at Jurong East MRT station approximately around 2:30 pm.
So having a few hours to spare I watched some Saturday morning cartoons. I left at about 215pm. I had by chance, met up with Faisal who was going with the group and the two of us boarded the east bound train.
The others were already there waiting impatiently for us. Latif had a car waiting, (he's got a driver's licence. I'm quite jealous of that) somewhere near the rear entrance of the Popular Bookstore.
There were 4 of us at the back so it was a tight ride. (Sounds...explicit lol) Luckily we avoided the jam which had affected Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 thus we were able to reach Latif's house by 3:10pm.
Celebrating Eid is about strengthening friendships and reunions. Its also seeking forgiveness and dressing up in traditional clothings.
Anyway after Latif's house which was at Bedok, we alighted bus 506 which transported us to Jurong East. Our next stop would be Jamal's abode.
After eating some delicious noodles. We waited for the arrival of another friend who was taking his bike to Jamal's block.
I decided to leave at 6pm because I had made a promise to my long time friend Herwan, that I would accompany him to a housewarming ceremony (ppl call it an open house. i dunno exactly why though). He was at the JE interchange so I walked from Jamal's place there.
I haven't seen him for a few years. He's leaner now that he is doing his NS stint and taller. Although his personality hasn't changed a bit. (this is a good thing..)
We took bus 105 and got down near Toh Guan. We found Nurafidah's house just behind the bus stop after confirming with her on the phone.
There were lots of guests at her house. We got a little nervous initially (but hey!) I was hungry so we invited ourselves in.
Okay I haven't seen this girl since 1995 so I don't even recall how she looked like. However she did and she remembered my name as well. Damn...how do people remember such things? It makes me look like an ass. Oh well, humor me.
We dined in with some delectable Nasi Bryani and talked with the host. We reminisced about that lifetime ago when we were pint sized kids. Oh the horror.
Later another primary acquaintace arrives. Inevitably I have no recollection. Its been more than 5 years...give me a break ~ sigh.
It seems, that she is Nurafida's close friend. The three of us started chatting. Then Herwan had a plan to come over to my house. He hasn't been there since I had moved from Bukit Batok. Nurafida had to wait on her boyfriend so the three of us(Nurfadilah, Herwan and I. I'm typing her name just in case I forget it again) left sometime around 835 pm in the evening. There was a direct bus from Nura's house so we took that and promptly came to LOT1, 15mins afterwards.
She was famished so we had late dinner at LJS. Herwan had to go to the toilet, so there I was alone with her for that few minutes. Amazing, she analysed my behaviour like an open book. Maybe she should have taken psychology instead of an economics degree. (Or perhaps become an astrologer. :P)
She said that I was one of a kind. I heard from other people, that this is another term for weirdo.
I had to agree with her and most of my other friends. I haven't change since the day I was born. (Why would I? Its intrisincally who I am. I've grown to love and hate myself.)
Next we took the feeder bus and went into my unit. My grandmother's asleep and the only other inhabitant who was awake is my sister.
I made some water for the guests and talked more. My family came home at around 1045pm.
Another 15 mins later they left.
Herwan made an appoinment with me to go to another 'open house' tomorrow.
TO BE CONTINUED...

"The thing is I like things quiet"

Chapter 1:
After my friday prayers I went off alone (as usual of course) to Bras Basah complex(affectionately termed as BBC by DMD students) to buy some tubes of watercolour paint and sable brushes. It was raining heavily and I had accidentally alighted one stop before the nearest point. I had to walk from the NTUC building to the National Art Museum and finally along Carlton hotel.
BBC was having a book fair at the ground floor. So there were many books for sale at bargain prices. (At least that's what they advertised)I noticed a couple of art books on Munch, Beardsley, Monet, Picasso and self-improvement books that were interesting.
Returning to my first priority, I went up to the 3rd floor. Then I saw a women burdened with three plastic bags and was having trouble opening the door. I helped her open the door. (yada yada yada y'know chivalry)
I bought the supplies while fighting temptations to buy extra things like sponges ($10), copic marker pens ($3)and a new watercolour pad ($11).
Now with my purchases settled I marched off to Takashimaya's Kinokuniya to buy the book that I had coveted for some time now...Liberty Meadows 'Creature Comforts' by Frank Cho. Wow...Its still raining and there is a slight gust blowing the raindrops at a slanted angle.
On the way there I saw some sculptures being displayed at the art museum. They were aptly entitled 'Blockbusters'. IMHO, it looks like cubism. While I was taking a few shots at the sculptures, a strong breeze knocked down the metal easel, which was apparently just behind me. A few centimetres more and I would've had a really bad headache.
I had hunger pangs so I bought some takeaway from Plaza Singapura's Long John Silver (LJS). The outlet was packed so I brought the food to Meridien(just beside the Istana) and sat quietly at a corner. Suddenly a black crow flew at my feet and surreptiously eyed my food. It wasn't big, it was only about the size of my foot [...].
I ate with godspeed and discarded the leftovers with much gusto.
Kinokuniya is heaven on earth. I love the graphic novels here. In the midst of browsing through several of my favourite comic heroes, (The Amazing Spiderman, Wonder Woman, X-MEN, Batman and Earth's greatest superhero Superman) I saw the book that had me smitten. Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen's crtically aclaimed mini series, Superman: Secret Identity. (I've read the book. Its probably the best comic that I had read in my entire life. Seriously.)
I couldn't leave the store without Frank's Liberty Meadows so I towed that along to the cashier's. A cool $70 just expended on these two books. However the art just blew me away. It's worth more than what I had paid for...
Chapter 2
Mental note to self: Never take the bus towards CCK from Orchard again. There was a massive jam at the BKE. Traffic was slowed down to a crawl. It was really SLOW and I was standing the whole time. My heels hurt. I wanted to sit on the floor but I didn't want to look foolish so I stood for the next 1 1/2 hours.
My Junior College friend smsed me. Let's go visit our soccer coach. OKay...finally some friends who bothered asking me out. I was actually drained. Heck it's an oportunity to have some fun so I relented.
I rushed back home had some dinner and headed towards Bukit Merah Interchange. I arrived at 845 pm and they were talking about the Singapore idols. Not that I care. I don't really pay much attention to that hype.
At 9pm the guys who we were waiting for, finally presented themselves.
I was surprised that the soccer coach remembered me. Though not by name. (he thought I was Usop, whoever that was) It really shocked me cause I wasn't actively involved in that CCA. Some things never change. He's still a scoundrel and cracking those corny jokes. I'm glad I went to see him.
Later the guys decided to pay a visit to Ilham's house, at Jurong West Extension. Its 10 30 pm. We took cabs there and had supper at his place. Yasser joined the party and then there were eight.
They decided to go to my house now. Its 1130 pm. Well my family's still awake entertaining my uncle and aunite, so no problem.
We watched 'The 13th ghost' which was airing on HBO and ate some mee rebus. (cooked by my father who is BTW a erm...a cook) Its 115am. Damn....its Saturday haha. The guys then left but lingered at the void deck. They seemed uncertain of what is their next intinerary. So I brought down the carrom board and we played some rounds before Ihsan's brother came to pick them up. 230am.
We're going on rounds later today.
TO BE CONTINUED.

The Top Spin(s)

I need to find a job soon. I feel so bored doing basically the same chores everyday. Nobody invited me to go anywhere so I asked Zero if I could tag along.

So we went back to school to play tennis. I've never, ever tried this sport before so I was not much of a challenge for him. Then he decided we should go over to the courts located near BLk M. It was occupied by some basketballers and tennis players. Played some rounds with those tennis snottyfreaks before retiring to a game of badminton.

Sigh...only four shuttlers occupying one court. So we remained there for half an hour. Later, we made a stop at Macs and following that Ang Mo Kio Library. Zero initially thought that he had a measly$0.10 fine and he wanted me to pay using my cashcard. Somehow he was wrong.

Respectively we mad our way to Raiders LAN shop and played CounterStrike. I totally forgot all the controls so I was fodder to the indiscriminate bullets. (At least I went out today.)

Bored: Wearied by dullness.

Tommorow I'll be going out again, by myself, it seems. I wished someone could be with me. Talk about stuff and slack around. Even though, I know, I'll be alone as usual - maybe I should just get used to it. After all loneliness is my best friend.

Tagboard problems

I've had some uploading problems recently and I just found out that its coming from tagboard. I don't know the exact problem but there was a server connection error. So I decided to change to chatterbox for the moment. Does anybody else have the same issues with tagboard?

Anyway looks like my board is empty again...on the hindsight though, it wasn't a very busy place to begin with. Don't let the stat counter fool you. Its glitchy, I have set the configurations so that it won't count my visits however it sets itself to default after some period. And that kids, is how the 'cookies' crumble...ok that was a lame geeky computer joke.

New Layout

Finally the new layout is finished! Hooray. It took me at least 6 hours to change the design that I 'borrowed' from blogskins. Its an original concept except for the layout....I don't know CSS that well. Thanks to Jess for the HTML.(I don't know her)
I still have some problems though. I can't seem to input comments without having some problems and the navigation bar is missing...(don't tell Blogger haha)

I guess the page is inspired by Samurai X or what rabid fans would prefer, Rurouni Kenshin. Yeah I know, there's no image of Himura or his gang. I chose to use a pic of a sakabatou instead.

Heart of the sword is one of my favourite soundtracks. It also sounds very profound. Think about it, a living sword or a merciful swordsman? Heh actually I'm making no sense at all.

Its been two days since Hari Raya. I'd like say Happy Holidays to my friends and enjoy your vacation.

Use the tagboard for comments and stuff. CYA later!

Sketchy Beginnings

I was at school today at 3pm for the briefing which I thought was a sketching excursion. Unaware of the current situation I signed up for what turned out to be a recruitment drive for the sketching club. OMG I thought it was a briefing for an excursion...so blur again.
I guess its alright. I like drawing and exploring new environments so the club actually is a perfect fit for my personality and endearments.
Ms Gail explained in detail the club's activities and aims. Pretty much a standard introduction.
Tomorrow we will be getting intimate with Little India. I'm excited about the impending trip. I always wanted to go on sketching trips but I guess I was fearful of being mocked by passers-by.

After the short half hour discussion. I went to Orchard road to buy a sketchbook that I had seen once at Wheelock's Borders. Before I went there however I made a stop at Orchard MRT's Popular Bookstore. I was browsing through some comic books when I had a chance meeting with Catherine. She had just finished working at her dad's Perfume/Toiletries shop and sauntering about town before coincidentally entering the same bookstore.
She had a quick appraisal of the chinese comics and I asked whether she would like to visit borders with me. Since she was waiting for her father who was engaged in an important conference with his staff, she obliged. Borders was having a sale for 2005 calendars. I like the art calendars which had signature works of Dali and other famous painters.
The sketchbook was still available and I purchased it without delay as Catherine informed me that Anthony was waiting for her at the train station. I was distracted by so many books and peripherals on sale at borders but as I had told Cat, I hadn't the money to buy them.
We left the megabook store and found Anthony seated at the staircase. 5 mins later I bade them farewell and went homeward bound.

Pieces Of Me

I walked into room B uncertain. This is one of those defining moments in my life where I could make or break my future. With my portfolio in my right hand I opened the door and I saw Ms Wendy and Mr Kelvin seated at the corner.
This is my presentation. Everything I had done for semester one, was going to be viewed and evaluated by these two people.
Following Ms Wendy's instruction I carefully placed my portfolio on a table and unzipped it. Then I took my folder and 3D model which I had painstainkingly assembled over the two days to Kelvin's table.
What can you tell me about your animal?
You did not plan your layout properly...
Why did u fold your drawings?
Tell me about 3D model...
Q&A. No problem - its going to be a cinch....BUT why is my hand trembling. No time to think about that.
And a few minutes later it was over.

(Why did Kelvin ask me what I had wanted to specialize in? He asked me not once nor twice but on three separate occasions.) Good Luck to all my friends! Que Sera Sera!
